Why Finish With Joy?

After listening to a sermon on the book of Acts 20, there was a verse that sparked the inspiration for this blog’s namesake.

Verse 24 reads: But none of these things (the bonds and afflictions that would await Paul in Jerusalem) move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

My desire is to finish my course with joy, one day at a time.  Each day filled with mundane and challenging tasks, each day filled with more noise and papers that I know what to do with, each day filled with quiet and loud moments of His sovereignty.

THIS BLOG

I began to be drawn to the idea of blogging back in 2008 after reading an article by a woman I met at a local homeschool support group.  At that time I was teaching, encouraging & mentoring women in several different settings.  I believed blogging would be another avenue by which I could do what I was already doing (and loving!) on a larger scale.

Desire & motivation to start a blog however were unequally balanced due in part to the season of life I was in.

My husband was working out of the country, which meant parenting five children without his physical support, homeschooling three children and serving in other areas outside of the home.  Life was full and I had no desire to take on anything else.

Fast forward ten years, our family has grown to nine children, homeschooling continues and we moved to another state, leaving behind the friends and support that were a major part of my journey as a woman and educator.

My aim here at Finish with Joy is to cultivate a place where women can be equipped and encouraged; a place where ideas and struggles can be shared as we look to Christ and the Bible as the foundation for our roles as wives, mothers, and educators.

It’s my prayer that you will find encouragement and practical help for whatever you’re facing today, and that together we can learn from each other.
